New Station Commander's Cadet at RAF Waddington

Air Cadet Iva Magpantay from 1237 (North Hykeham) Squadron has been selected as RAF Waddington’s Station Commander’s Cadet for 2017.

Following a tough application process which included an interview with Station Commander Group Captain Al Marshall, Cadet Flight Sergeant Magpantay was selected as the top cadet from a long list of high calibre candidates from across the region.

On taking up the position Cadet Magpantay said: “When I was informed that I had been selected as Station Commanders Cadet, I was surprised and elated at the same time.

“I am very grateful for the opportunity I have been given and excited to be able to witness a side of the RAF that Cadets do not normally have the chance to see.

“I am really looking forward to carrying out my responsibilities and duties to the Station Commander, such as attending the Freedom of Lincoln parade in April.

“It is not every day that you are given such a fantastic opportunity to represent RAF Waddington, 1237 (North Hykeham) Squadron and the Air Training Corps and I am really looking forward to the experience.”

Her appointment brings with it a great deal of responsibility acting as an ambassador for both her squadron and the RAF Air Cadets as a whole.

Throughout the next year her responsibilities will include accompanying the Station Commander on various official duties including the Freedom of Lincoln Parade in April.

In return Cadet Magpantay will be mentored throughout the year by station personnel and will be given privileged access to the base, giving her a unique insight into RAF Waddington and the wider Service.

RAF Waddington Station Commander Group Captain Al Marshall said: “I would like to congratulate Cadet Magpantay on her appointment.  She excelled at interview, has proven herself academically and I am sure will be an excellent ambassador for the Air Training Corps.  With exposure to the day-to-day activities of a Royal Air Force main operating base, she will gain a privileged insight into the Service which will help build on the skills she has already learned as a cadet.

Cadet Magpantay takes over the role from 2016 Cadet Flight Sergeant Ellie Sisson from 203 (Gainsborough) Squadron.

On handing over the role Ellie said: As well as the fantastic opportunities I have had for work experience, I was honoured to have joined RAF Waddington personnel in celebrating their Centenary during 2016.

“I paraded with station personnel several times throughout the year, including the Freedom of Lincoln parade and the Remembrance Service. I even had lunch with HRH The Earl of Wessex!

“My time as the Station Commander’s Cadet for RAF Waddington has been one that I am extremely grateful for and I hope Iva gets just as much out of it as I did.”

RAF Waddington Station Commander Group Captain Al Marshall said: “Ellie has been an exceptional Station Commander’s cadet and she is a credit to the Air Training Corps.  I am certain she will enjoy further success within her Cadet Squadron and I wish her the very best for the future.”
